Becoming an Unintentional Hippie

The Journey

I have always had a burning desire to help people cope with their daily lives.  Whether it involved consoling a friend, being a sounding board for family, or even going as far as getting a Psychology Degree in college (not that I have used it in my career).   While the desire has always been present the practice was not. How could I honestly help someone if I could barely cope with my own life?  This blog is about the journey I took to find “my truth” and how I leverage this truth from my unique perspective to cope with life and find happiness.  Although, if you want the cliff notes version you simply need to truly believe that you are your own master and can choose your inner state. No matter what life throws at you, YOU are the only person who can truly change YOU.   This perspective is what I mean about being an unintentional hippie.  Unintentional in that I am not a spiritual healer or yogi that will contort or meditate my way into finding solace in the world.   What I am is a man who has struggled to find his place in this world and realized that the real struggle is not with the world or the people in it, but with myself.  I have leaned on numerous people, books, article, products, videos, etc. and my hope/dream is that some of these words will resonate with you and help you find that sense of peace that seems more like a mythical concept than a reality

About Me

I’m Shawn — a former hard-charging marketing executive, lifelong helper, and reluctant spiritual seeker. For years, I pushed through life on sheer willpower and ambition, climbing the corporate ladder while quietly wrestling with stress, anxiety, and a nagging sense that something was missing. I had the titles, the responsibilities, even a Psychology degree I never “used” — yet inside, I was crumbling.

I’ve always had a deep desire to help others. Whether it was talking a friend through a tough time or being the calm voice in the storm for family, I wanted to be someone others could lean on. But eventually, I had to face a hard truth: it’s nearly impossible to help others if you’re disconnected from yourself.

The Unintentional Hippie is my way of exploring that journey — not as a guru or wellness influencer, but as a regular guy trying to figure it all out. I never set out to “go spiritual” or become a wellness expert. I just wanted to feel better, to live better, and to find something real beneath all the noise. Through self-reflection, meditation, movement, philosophy, and sometimes just sitting with uncomfortable truths, I began to reconnect with the person I’d forgotten — me.

This site is about the process of becoming more human, more whole, and more at peace — not through perfection, but through awareness. If you're someone who feels like you're "successful on paper" but internally off-track, or if you're simply seeking something deeper, you’re not alone.

I hope what you find here helps you as much as the process of writing it helps me.
